What to expect at this park
SeaWorld San Diego mixes marine animal exhibits, presentations, family attractions, and increasingly large thrill rides into one park. A typical visit can move between roller coasters, aquariums, animal habitats, shows, dining, and slower family attractions throughout the day.
The Mission Bay location gives the park a milder coastal climate than inland Southern California, but you will still spend hours exposed to the sun. Bring sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, water, and a lightweight layer for cooler mornings or evenings, and check show schedules so you are not repeatedly crossing the park.
Plan around these
Coastal layers
Mission Bay mornings and evenings can feel considerably cooler than the afternoon — a lightweight hoodie or jacket is useful.
Show schedules
Animal presentations happen at scheduled times, so check the day's schedule before deciding your route through the park.
California sun
Cool ocean air can make the sun feel less intense than it actually is — sunscreen, sunglasses, and water still matter.
Loose article storage
Backpacks and bags are not permitted on many rides, so use a non-rider or one of the park's available lockers.
Cashless purchases
SeaWorld San Diego is cashless and accepts cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Free cash-to-card kiosks are available inside the park.
Ride closures
Weather, maintenance, and operational needs can affect attractions, so check the park app or closure schedule before building the entire day around one coaster.
