What to expect at this park
Disney California Adventure sits directly across the esplanade from Disneyland Park in Anaheim, and it packs eight themed lands into a footprint you can cross in fifteen minutes. Expect long stretches of open pavement, very little shade between Cars Land and Pixar Pier, and afternoon temperatures that stay warm well into October.
Grizzly River Run will get you properly wet, and the Silly Symphony Swings and Incredicoaster lines are almost entirely uncovered. Most families we hear from underpack water and overpack clothing.
Plan around these
Open sun
Long unshaded queues — hats, sunscreen and a cooling towel earn their space.
One soaker
Grizzly River Run runs most of the year. Poncho and a dry bag.
Warm evenings
Highs stay up into October, but nights near the water cool off fast.
Compact but walkable
Small footprint, still 6–8 miles a day. Blister care matters.
Check the official policies before you pack
Bag sizes, cooler rules and prohibited items change without notice. We link straight to the park's own pages rather than repeating details that might be out of date.

Common questions
Small soft-sided coolers are usually fine; hard coolers and anything on wheels generally are not. Sizes change, so check the park's own bag policy — we link to it above — before you leave the hotel.
One refillable bottle per person, plus a plan to refill. Anaheim summer afternoons regularly sit in the high 80s and there is very little shade between Cars Land and Pixar Pier.
Grizzly River Run will soak you, and Pixar Pier's splash zones catch bystanders. A poncho and a dry bag for phones cover most of it; full changes of clothes are usually overkill for a day trip.
For toddlers, yes — the park is compact but you will still cover several miles. Rentals sell out on peak days, so bringing your own is the safer plan.
