What to expect at this park

Kings Dominion combines major roller coasters, family attractions, Planet Snoopy, live entertainment, seasonal events, and the 20-acre Soak City water park. The park currently has 13 coasters, including Rapterra, Pantherian, Twisted Timbers, and Flight of Fear, giving thrill seekers plenty to build a full day around.

Central Virginia summers can be hot, humid, sunny, and stormy, so water, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, and lightweight rain protection are smart additions. Since Soak City is included with admission when operating, swimwear and a change of clothes can also be worthwhile even if the water park is only part of the plan.

Plan around these

Soak City is included

The 20-acre Soak City water park is included with Kings Dominion admission when operating, so packing swimwear gives you an easy second plan for the afternoon.

Virginia heat & humidity

Summer afternoons can get hot and muggy. Water, sunscreen, and occasional air-conditioned or shaded breaks make a long coaster day much easier.

Pack lighter for the coasters

Some major rides have strict loose-article policies. Twisted Timbers, Flight of Fear, and Pantherian prohibit bags and other loose items from their queues and direct guests to lockers or non-riders.

Storms can reshuffle the day

Virginia summer thunderstorms can temporarily affect outdoor rides and Soak City attractions. Keep your route flexible rather than planning every ride in a fixed order.

The park is cashless

Kings Dominion uses cashless payments, with Cash-to-Card kiosks available for guests who arrive with cash.

Know the chaperone policy

Guests age 15 or younger must be accompanied by a chaperone age 21 or older when the policy is in effect, currently daily by 4 p.m. The park may begin enforcement earlier.
